~ 2012 EcoMaine Excellence Award ~
Gray’s nominated Peter Thoits for their town’s community award because of “his years of volunteer service to the Town’s recycling efforts.”
He was chairperson of the Recycling Committee for nine years and worked on projects such as household hazardous waste collection, Fall & Spring Clean-Up Days, and the Town purchase of “Gray Recycles” bins.
He wrote and submitted articles about recycling to the local newspaper and was instrumental in the re-writing of Gray’s recycling ordinance, which has been submitted to the Town Council for approval.
Recyclable items include:
Corrugated cardboard, paperboard, newspaper and magazines, office paper, calendars, paper bags, egg cartons, junk mail, tin cans, glass bottles and jars, mugs, mirrors and window glass, plastics numbered 1 through 7, plastic grocery bags, and rechargeable batteries.
